This song alone is a classic, but the video in general looks artistically appealing with it being in Black and White. The low lighting and panning shots accompany the song hand in hand, as well as the choreographed dance routine.
2. Praise You- Fatboy Slim
The music video is directed by Spike Jonze, a well known director in the film industry, who also stars in the video. The video was filmed 'guerilla' style, meaning that you film on location without permission from the owner. The cheap appearance/reality of the music video makes it very unique and is not like other music videos, although it has a choreographed dance routine, it does not look like the average music video. The ambient lighting coming from within the location (the cinema) gives it an edgy feel with it being filmed by a handheld camera.
3. Animal- Miike Snow
This video is quite recent so uses more modern editing techniques. The stop motion used is an idea that I would like to consider for my music video. I like in this music video how the narrative fits with the music and range of media techniques used in this add a dream-like feel, from slow-motion to strobe lighting they all layer up to accompany a good song.
Ruby you need to respond to my 2 July post. In order to raise the stakes you need to analyse at least one of these music videos in order to raise your research above Levels 1 or 2!!!! I'd suggest you take the Madonna music video and look at the way it is influenced by 1930's musicals made by Busby Berkeley, or Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers' musical movies of the 40's and 50's. In order to raise your grades you need to analyse music videos rooting your ideas to Goodwin's theory, explaining how the genre of the track is communicated whilst making inter textual references. Where is your Africa Shox analysis which was due on 9 July. As they say in New Zealand, "rattle your dags"!
To strengthen your grade I suggest you take one of these music videos and relate aspects of mise-en-scene to Goodwin's Theory.
ReplyDeleteAlso you need to have completed your analysis of Africa Shox by the end of next week.
An encouraging start to your blog Ruby.
